What is Reiki?
Reiki is an alternative form of hand treatment re-discovered in the early 20th century by the Japanese scholar Mikao Usui. Translated from Japanese Reiki means “Universal energy”. It works by transferring that energy from the Reiki practitioner’s hands to the client in order to encourage emotional, physical, mental and spiritual healing. On a physical level, Reiki stimulates the body’s self-healing abilities, on a psychological level it brings relaxation, balance and harmonising body and mind.
What to expect from a treatment?
Reiki is a very gentle and pleasant therapy with a very powerful healing effect. Clients usually lie down on a massage table, fully clothed throughout the session(only have to take their shoes off) and covered with blanket. Treatments are given either with the hands placed on the body (targeting the energy fields) or slightly above, allowing the energy to flow where it is most needed. There is no pressure and no sensitive areas of the body are touched. People normally feel a pleasant tingling or warmth in the area where the hands are moved, sometimes they may fall asleep. Reiki treatment starts a cleansing process and helps the body get rid of toxins, some people experience emotional release or may feel unwell but these reactions should cease after a few hours or the next day.
